* Cyberdog, which was an optional component of System 7.6.1, is no longer supported by Apple and has not been tested for Year 2000 Compliance.

** MenuBar Clock displays a single year digit for dates in the range from 1/1/2000 to 12/31/2009.

The MenuBar Clock and several third-party applications make use of the Mac OS IUDateString system function. In System 7.5.5 and earlier versions, the IUDateString function returns a single digit for the years 2000 through 2009 instead of the two digits usually presented. For example, January 1, 2000, would appear as 1/1/0 instead of 1/1/00.

This is only a cosmetic display problem, and does not affect date calculations or the underlying functionality of the Mac OS.

There are two possible workarounds for this issue:

1. Update the OS to a later version than System 7.5.5. In System 7.6.1 or later, the IUDateString system call will return the leading zero.

2. In the Date & Time Control Panel, click on “Date Formats…,” then select the checkbox “Show century”. This will cause the MenuBar Clock to display a four-digit year. Note that this solution only works for the MenuBar clock. To correct third-party applications that display only a single zero, you will need either System 7.6.1 (or later) or an update patch for the application. Some applications may offer a preference setting to show a 4-digit year.

“Will Not Test”
The Year 2000 testing that Apple has performed has focused on the products that are most likely to be in active use by the majority of Apple’s customers in the consumer, design and publishing, and education markets. This includes Apple’s currently released hardware and software products and many older versions of our software products that have a significant installed base. These products are listed here on the Apple and the Year 2000 web site. Apple is not planning to test any additional products beyond those identified on this web site. While many products that are not tested will work beyond the Year 2000 using 4-digit years, Apple recommends that you assume any product that has not been tested is “not-compliant” and take appropriate actions to assess and remediate your computing environment.
